Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
